We were approached by Guerilla Science to come up with an exciting and unique animation, to advertise their new podcast. In keeping with Guerilla Science’s mission to ‘revolutionise how people connect with science through transformative experiences’ – we wanted to create something that was both engaging and unconventional for the science world!
Fortunately for us we were lucky to begin this project with a blank canvas, so we started experimenting with various graphic styles to try and find a visual aesthetic that suited the Guerilla Science brand, while still aiming to step outside the box. We ended up settling with a D.I.Y collage graphic identity that we felt worked well with the Guerilla Science ethos. The collage approach also enabled us too easily and effectively include the varied subject matter that the podcast covers.
After we had sourced all the imagery we wanted to include in the animation, we began to play around with colouring, texturing and formatting the assets. We decided early on in the process that a limited colour palette would be the best route, so that it would avoid any overcrowding and confusion in the final animation. Once we had gathered all the graphical elements, we started to animate. We approached the animation with simplicity and minimalism; we didn’t want to use any over the top techniques – as we wanted the imagery to speak for itself.
We are super happy with how the final animation has come out. Through the collage graphical style we have retained the D.I.Y and revolutionary ethos to the Guerilla Science brand, while the limited colour palette and subtle animations allow for the imagery to clearly inform what could be featuring in the podcast.
