Beach Meets : Atelier Bingo Meet our latest exciting discovery, Atelier Bingo – consisting of  Maxime & Adèle.  They are illustrators, surface and graphic designers creating colourful, abstract compositions in their beautiful studio in the French countryside. This creative duo experiment with a number of different processes, one of which being screen printing. Each outcome they produce is unique and different from the last. Atelier Bingo have produced 2 exclusive prints just for Beach! ‘Picnic à Buckingham’ and ‘Bingo Save the Queen’. Read our interview with them, check out snaps of their studio and shop the Atelier Bingo collection below.

Bonjour Max and Adèle! ! How are you?

Très très bien, and you ?

Is there a story behind the name Atelier Bingo?

Maxime: A very complicated and tragic story with a dog called “Bingo”. He was a cat killer… too complicated 🙂

But now we can say we have a Bingo moment in our work!  The way we create our images is by using screen printing like a brush for a painter.

We build an image colour by colour. We never know what the image will look like before the last colour is put on and the image is complete. We wait for that good time that we can say ‘BINGO!’

Tell us a bit about both of your backgrounds?

Adèle: We are a two, Maxime & Adèle and we are a couple, in the private life 😉

We went to graphic design school in Nantes for 5 years and lived and worked together during this time.

After this, we moved to the capital, Paris to find a job. Maxime started to work in an agency and I was freelance working for edition.

One day my uncle showed me his factory project. We completely fell in love with the place so after 2 years in Paris we came here, in the countryside to start a common project “atelier bingo.”

We always wanted to do screenprintg during our studying but we never had a place to do it so it was a perfect opportunity for us.

Now we have our personal universe, and we love to collaborate with lot’s of people. We are a mix of Artist, illustrator and Designer 🙂

How long has Atelier Bingo been going for?

Maxime: For one year ( and a little bit more ). Time has gone so fast and it’s just crazy how many cool projects we’ve had since the beginning of this adventure !

Your studio looks amazing – do you live there too?

Adèle: Yes it’s a big working place and we have a small flat just behind the window. It’s a converted factory (tannery) in the countryside of France near Nantes.

It’s a project of my uncle who did the renovation of the building. The factory is a sharing of 4 working spaces / flat and 3 other just working spaces.

All our neighbors are creative people : sculptors, leather work, shoe designers, photographers, ceramists… We are very lucky to live in a such nice place 🙂

How did you come up with our 2 lovely Beach exclusives? Did you have a plan for how you wanted them to look from the beginning?

Adèle: Not a very clear idea at the beginning ! But we always start by a combination of colors or somes shapes. For the 2 Beach exclusives – it was colours !

We wanted something very summery, colorful, dancing in the paper. With these ideas in our head we started to build the image and waited for the perfect moment to stop it 🙂

For one of the Beach exclusive prints, why the title ‘Picnic à Buckingham’?

Maxime: It’s very hard to name your work, we like to give absurd names to our works! It’s not always accurate, so what it’s fun.  Sometimes people give us a new fun name to an artprint and that is very cool for us. Gives the artprint a new life !!!

Have you ever done any fun collaborations with other artists? If so, what were they?

Maxime: Yes we do a lot of nice collaborations with other artists or creative people. We’ve done some collective exhibitions – My-Self Gelato, Bologna, Inuit Bookshop, Your sexual Fantasy, South Korea and Aer Edition. We just finished a collaboration with a stylist Rebecca Renaud for a clothes project and we may be doing something with Gur very soon 😉

Who’s the dog?

Adele: A crazy idea !!!!! When we came to the countryside lot’s of people asked us “Why you don’t have a dog”. So one day we decided to get one. A golden retriver.

His name is Donut and he loves to run everywhere and do stupid stuff. He’s crazy but we love him 🙂

What’s next for Atelier Bingo?
