BEACH NOW ACCEPTS BITCOIN! :D
Beach Meets : Crispin Finn

Hi Crispin Finn, how are you? Very well thanks! How you doing?

Good thanks! What  stuff are you feeling right now? We’re involved in a show that just opened called “Not For Rental” at 71a (Leonard Street) Gallery – it’s brilliantly installed like a video rental store, with unique original artwork on each videotape cover by a huge roster of awesome artists – at the end of the show each “tape” will be sold off to raise money for Art Against Knives and Macmillan Cancer Support. There’s also a really good show of Patrick Caulfield’s work at Tate Britain on at the moment, and a show at White Cube Bermondsey of the awesome American artist Julie Mehretu. Plus the current show at – ahem – Beach London of Will Sweeney’s stunning drawings. We also really enjoyed visiting the ELCAF (East London Comics & Arts Fair) a week or so ago – so much talent and so many lovely people all under one roof! The list of artists we are into is endless but constant sources of inspiration include A.M. Cassandre, Eduardo Paolozzi, David Gentleman, Tom Eckersley, Steve Powers/ ESPO, Eric Ravilious, Alex Steinweiss, Charles Burns, Milton Glaser, Bob Gill, Paul Rand, Alan Fletcher, Herb Lubalin, Sophie Calle, Matthew Brannon, Gerd Arntz, Lee (Alexander) McQueen, Margaret Calvert, Chris Ware, Stanley Kubrick & Phyllis Pearsall. We’re obsessed with films and the cinema – really want to see the new Ben Wheatley film “A Field in England” – loved his previous movies, in particular the amazing “Kill List”. He’s amazing. Film of the year so far? Probably Steven Soderberg’s “Behind The Candelabra”. It’s fascinating, funny, and the performances are awesome – Rob Lowe’s plastic surgeon is off the scale. All we seem to be playing in the studio at the moment is either Black Flag or Joe Goddard based stuff! Turn it up!

What are you working on at the moment? We’re enjoying working on lots of different projects at the moment, half and half personal work and commercial work, but one thing we’ve just finished is our first ever Glow In The Dark screenprint – it reads “The Bar Is Open” and glows bright blue with the lights off – just like a proper neon sign! And the rumours may be true – discussions are on going as to the possibility of a follow up to the cocktail night we threw with you guys at Beach with the help of Hendrick’s Gin – Sex On The Beach Part Deux? Watch this space..!

Describe your most recent/weirdest dream… The other night Roger dreamt that we hired a whole load of aeroplane seats, installed them in Beach, with an aisle, lots of aeroplane style ephemera, the whole place done up just like the inside of a Boeing 747. Guests (passengers) arrived and then when everyone was seated, an amazing in-flight style dinner was served (on trays of course), while movies played and the drinks trolley rolled up and down. It was amazing…!
